The MATZA Edgelands Box Set is a unique collection of four catalogues, each offering a deep exploration of the social, political, and cultural landscapes of four cities: Medellín, Cúcuta (Colombia), Nairobi, and Geneva. MATZA Edgelands has been realized between 2022 and 2023 in collaboration with the Edgelands Institute. In a today’s world context marked by upheaval, urbanization and security concerns, the project invites artists from various backgrounds to explore the peripheral spaces—both physical and symbolic—where communities come together to build trust and belonging, essential components for thriving societies.
The four editions in this box set reflect this vision, examining urban tensions, social contracts, and the dynamics of change in these cities. From Medellín’s transformation and creativity to the social realities of Cúcuta, Nairobi’s challenges, and Geneva’s unique urban perspective, each catalogue offers powerful insights into the ‘edgelands’—the often overlooked, informal spaces that carry immense potential for rethinking our societal structures.
